چکیده

In this paper, we study the thermodynamic phase transition in one dimensional systems with short range interaction. We begin by reviewing some famous non-existence result, such as Landau’s argument and van Hove’s theorem. And we point out that the PerronFrobenius theorem is generally used to determine whether there is phase transition in such kind of system. Then several examples that Perron-Frobenius theorem doesn’t apply and exhibit phase transitions will be present.

General non-existence theorem for phase transitions in one-dimensional systems with short range interactions, and physical examples of such transitions

We examine critically the issue of phase transitions in one-dimensional systems with short range interactions. We begin by reviewing in detail the most famous non-existence result, namely van Hove’s theorem, emphasizing its hypothesis and subsequently its limited range of applicability. To further underscore this point, we present several examples of one-dimensional short ranged models that exh...

EFFECT OF THE NEXT-NEAREST NEIGHBOR INTERACTION ON THE ORDER-DISORDER PHASE TRANSITION

In this work, one and two-dimensional lattices are studied theoretically by a statistical mechanical approach. The nearest and next-nearest neighbor interactions are both taken into account, and the approximate thermodynamic properties of the lattices are calculated. The results of our calculations show that: (1) even though the next-nearest neighbor interaction may have an insignificant ef...

شبیه سازی ذوب سیستمهای دو بعدی

The study of a two-dimensional (2-D) system started nearly half a century ago when Peierls and Landau showed the lack of long range translational order in a two-dimensional solid. In 1968, Mermin proved that despite the absence of long range translational order. Two-dimensional solids can still exhibit a different kind of long range bond orientation. During the last decade, fascinating theori...

Influence of long-range Coulomb interaction on the metal-insulator transition in one-dimensional strongly correlated electron systems.

The influence of long-range Coulomb interactions on the properties of onedimensional (1D) strongly correlated electron systems in vicinity of the metalinsulator phase transition is considered. It is shown that unscreened repulsive Coulomb forces lead to the formation of a 1D Wigner crystal in the metallic phase and to the transformation of the square-root singularity of the compressibility (cha...

When topology triggers a phase transition

Two mathematical mechanisms, responsible for the generation of a thermodynamic singularity, are individuated. For a class of short-range, confining potentials, a topology change in some family of configuration space submanifolds is the only possible such mechanism. Two examples of systems in which the phase transition is not accompanied by a such topology change are discussed. The first one is ...
